SHARED HEALING & MENTAL HEALTH
The core of our mission here at #WGSTS is to bring awareness to everyday life experiences that are community-centered and liberation-oriented. We gently and creatively shine light on dis-ease or mental imbalances in our daily social and emotional functioning by offering community discussions led by icebreaker activities.
While this is not a substitute for therapy, it aids in preventing isolation around the topic. With the support of Artists, Holistic Practioners, and Mental Health Professionals, we are able to provide psychoeducation that informs attendees about the meaning behind the various emotions and conditions we often write about and express in our chosen art form e.t. poetry, spoken word, music, etc.
Poetry then becomes the bridge to personal emotion and social analysis. We invite solidarity vs. isolation around mental health and the many forms it presents itself. We use storytelling to break the stigma around the shame that may come from human suffering and offer community in the pursuit to self care and mental health. We find power in knowing that healing can be colorful and doesn't have to be done alone.
Through community discussions, attendees obtain the opportunity to tell their stories and learn emotional naming, while learning new ways to use poetry and art as a tool for coping and spiritual liberation.
